Honeycrush is the solo project of New York singer-songwriter Alexandra Antonopoulos. Under the moniker Honeycrush, Antonopoulos's "folk horror rock" blends distorted electric guitars, grooving bass lines and moody percussion into songs that feel both intimate and expansive, out of time and place but grounded in the current culture. On her forthcoming debut album, Backwards Crawling Speaking Stalling, Antonopoulos blurs the edges of gloomy alt rock and folk with bursts of post-punk energy that act as the perfect foil to her raw, emotive vocal performances. Citing Fiona Apple and Nirvana as major influences, Antonopoulos's songwriting explores womanhood in the context of a male-dominated world. Whether examining or defying patriarchal norms, a current of self-doubt and mistrust runs below it all, often resulting in songs that function as character studies with no clear victim or villain. Her hypnotic live performances recall the presence of '90s alt rock icons while conjuring an otherworldly quality that audiences describe as vulnerable and transportive.
